The Pokémon World Championships this year were packed with exciting announcements for fans of both the video games and the Trading Card Game. Among the biggest reveals was the introduction of a brand-new card rarity, centered around the return of Mega Evolutions.

Mega Charizard X EX Steals the Spotlight
During the event, The Pokémon Company unveiled a new CG trailer showcasing several Pokémon in battle. The trailer’s big moment came with the reveal of Mega Charizard X EX, a powerful new Fire-type card.
This card comes with a massive 360 HP and features a devastating move called Inferno X. The attack starts at 90 base damage, but here’s the twist—it can be multiplied based on how many Fire Energy cards you discard from Pokémon on your field. That means the more energy you build up, the harder Mega Charizard X EX can hit.
A New Rarity: Mega Attack Rares
Perhaps the most exciting news for collectors is the debut of a brand-new rarity: Mega Attack Rares. These cards feature unique artwork and showcase attack names written in katakana, giving them a distinct look compared to other rarity styles.
So far, three Pokémon have been confirmed to receive Mega Attack Rare versions:
Mega Charizard X EX
Mega Lucario EX
Mega Gardevoir EX
These cards will be part of the upcoming Mega Evolution TCG set, making them highly sought-after pulls when the set launches.
What’s Next for Mega Pokémon in the TCG?
The trailer didn’t stop there—it also teased that more Mega Pokémon EX cards are on the way in 2026. Among the confirmed reveals was Mega Dragonite EX, a fan-favorite dragon Pokémon that will also be making its debut in Pokémon Legends: Z-A later this year.
Mega Evolutions Beyond the Physical TCG
The announcements weren’t limited to physical cards. Mega Evolutions are also coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket this fall, bringing the fan-favorite mechanic to the mobile experience.
On top of that, The Pokémon Company revealed that:
Four-player battles are coming to Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The upcoming Pokémon Champions will serve as the main VGC game at next year’s World Championships
